Entry Policy for The Wells Theatre

All patrons who visit the Wells Theatre and/or attend performances must be fully vaccinated* by the date of their visit. If you are unable to be vaccinated, you may provide PCR COVID-19 test results taken within one week (7 Days) of your performance. Please note that these generally require an appointment in advance. Children (ages 11 or below) may enter with proof of first vaccination and mask as with other patrons.

*Patrons are considered fully vaccinated at least 14 days after their final dose of a Pfizer, Moderna, or the single dose of the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine.

Please note: Children from 5 -17, may enter with proof of the first vaccine taken.

*Patrons are considered fully vaccinated at least 14 days after their final dose of a Pfizer, Moderna, or the single dose of the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine.

What counts as proof?

In order to provide proof of vaccination, patrons must have one form of personal identification and present one of the following at entry to the theatre:

1. Your vaccination card (or picture on phone)*

2. A negative COVID test within one week (7 Days) of the show (printout, time stamped photo, or smartphone application test registration). PCR test results will be accepted, which are defined as lab result documents from either a Primary Care Physician or FDA Approved Pharmacist. Antigen tests will be accepted, provided a photograph with time-stamped evidence of the results is included in the image of the test. BinaxNow, QuickVue, and IntelliSwab are the only take-home antigen tests accepted by VSC and can be purchased at most local pharmacies.

3. If you have a child in your party between the ages of 11 or below, proof of their first vaccination via VDH website or vaccination card will be acceptable proof. Masks will be required for the child.
*If you do not have a copy of your vaccination card, but were vaccinated in the state of Virginia, you can access your vaccination record via the Virginia Department of Health Website

Will I need to show this every time I visit the theater?

At this time, yes, we require that all patrons carry a physical or digital photograph of their vaccination record.

What if I cannot be vaccinated, have a child younger than 5, or would prefer not to show a vaccination card?

All patrons, including children younger than 5, can alternatively provide a negative test for entry and will be required to wear masks while in the theatre.

Do I still have to wear a mask?

Vaccines are highly effective at lowering the risk of infection and preventing the worst outcomes from COVID-19. Because there remains some risk that even a vaccinated individual may experience a breakthrough infection, per the CDC guidance for our region, face masks are required for all patrons in order to best protect the health and safety of all cast, crew, and audience members. Masks may only be removed to consume concessions in the theatre, but must be immediately put back when you are done.

As we started last year with the 2020 production of A Christmas Carol, we continue to perform a deep clean of the house and lobby, including disinfecting door handles, counters and all shared surfaces prior to, during and thoroughly after every performance.

We are making hand sanitizer stations available throughout the building.

All bathrooms utilize motion-sense sinks and paper towel dispensers.

For a touchless experience, we are issuing electronic (print-at-home and mobile) tickets. Your mobile tickets will be available on the "My Account" portal.

Playbills will be available to pick up at the theatre. For those who wish to limit touching, a digital version of the playbill will be available to download or print at home on the VSC website and the link will be provided to patrons prior to arriving at the theatre, or via QR Code that can be scanned in the theatre.

Concessions will be available in the Tazewell Lobby, you will only be permitted to remove your mask to consume concessions in the lobbies outside of the theatre. Food and Drinks will NOT be permitted into the theatre. We encourage patrons to pre-order concessions before arriving at the theatre so that you have plenty of time to enjoy your refreshments before the start of the show or at intermission. Pre-ordering will be available through the Pre-Show email (sent 24 hours prior to performance date).

If for any reason we must cancel performances, or if you are unable to attend due to illness or possible exposure to COVID, we will honor your honesty and commitment to us by offering a full array of ticket exchange and refund options.

We will also eliminate exchange fees for those having hesitations on returning to the Wells for fear of COVID symptoms or exposure. Exchanges will be accepted up to two and a half  hours before the performance.

These policies will be in effect as of January 3, 2021 and will be evaluated on or before February 16, 2022.

Check this page regularly for the most up-to-date information.

Thank you for your cooperation with this health and safety policy. Please plan to arrive at the theatre early in order to facilitate this process!
